ILZSG's RoleThe International Lead and Zinc Study Group (ILZSG) is one of the few international fora where Governments and Industry with an interest in the lead and zinc markets can exchange views on related economic issues and on the consequences of international environmental and health related initiatives on the trade in lead and zinc. This is done via the Group's Economic and Environment Committee. Moreover, the ILZSG secretariat maintains contacts with relevant international organisations such as the OECD, UNEP, the Basel Secretariat, the European Commission and the World Bank, as well as private industry associations. The ILZSG periodically updates its environmental publications "Environmental and Health Controls on Lead" and "Environmental and Health Controls on Zinc". These publications are then made available at no charge. The secretariat also publishes Insight Reports on environmental and other topics. For example. a statistical and economic study on the impact of the Basel Convention on trade in lead and zinc has been produced. The ILZSG's Economic and Environment Committee follows all environmental aspects relevant to lead and zinc mines and smelters and end uses. This entails:
- ecotoxicity ILZSG has already released environmental studies such as "Environmnetal and Health Controls on Lead" and "Environmental and Health Controls on Zinc". A statistical and economic study on the impact of the Basel Convention on trade in lead and zinc has also been produced. |
